Water Leak Detection for Hornsby Homes, Day or Night

1000+ five-star reviews

Hornsby's older streets were plumbed generations ago, and the galvanised and earthenware pipe behind those Federation and post-war walls corrodes out of sight. A leak inside a wall or under a slab can run for weeks before a stain or a jumped water bill gives it away.

That gap between the failure and the first sign is exactly where detection earns its keep.

Inside a Water Leak Detection Job

First we listen, before we open anything. Acoustic sensors pick up the hiss of pressurised water escaping a pipe, so we can walk a leak to within centimetres without touching a wall.

Then we confirm it with a second read. Thermal imaging and moisture meters cross-check the acoustic trace, which matters where a leak has tracked along a slab and is showing up a room away from its source.

Only then do we open up. With the spot pinned, one small, targeted access gets us to the failed pipe, instead of chasing a stain across half a ceiling. Less mess, less to make good.

How to Know It's Time for Water Leak Detection

Hidden leaks announce themselves quietly, and the bill is often the loudest signal.

Watch for a water bill that climbs for no reason, or a warm patch on a slab floor. Paint that bubbles, a musty smell in one room, or a meter that keeps ticking after every tap is off all say the same thing.

Any one of those means water is escaping somewhere you cannot see, and the sooner it is traced the less it wrecks.

Why Hornsby Properties Need Water Leak Detection

The building waves here left a lot of old pipe in the ground and in the walls. The pre-1940 homes were run in galvanised steel that rusts from the inside, and around Jersey Street and the older streets those lines are now well past their span.

Newer apartments near the station bring a different leak: flexi hoses and concealed pipework in slab construction, where a small failure can travel a long way before it surfaces. Different eras, same need to find the leak precisely rather than demolish to reach it.

What Moves the Price of Water Leak Detection

The detection itself is a set piece of work, and we quote it before we start. What moves the figure is how buried the leak is and what it takes to reach it once traced.

A leak in an accessible wall cavity is straightforward; one under a tiled slab or inside a double-brick wall takes more care to access and make good. We price the trace and the likely repair separately and plainly, so you are never signing a blank cheque for a fault no one has seen yet.

Our Callout Process for Water Leak Detection

Emergency work isn't our sideline. It's the job. The phones, the vans and the rosters are all built around being reachable at any hour.

That's why the response is quick. There's always a plumber on and a stocked van ready, not someone woken up cold.

And why the price is still fixed at 3am. Same process, any hour: quote first, approve first, then work.

And why the fix gets verified. Same standard at night as at midday. Tested, made safe, done properly.

A straightforward trace is often done within the hour; an intermittent leak in old concealed pipework can take longer to pin, and we would rather be sure than open the wrong wall.

What the Law Asks of Water Leak Detection

Finding a leak is unregulated, but repairing one is not. In NSW, any work on the pressurised water system has to be done by a licensed plumber, and certificates apply once pipe is altered.

We hold the licence and the insurance, so the trace and the repair happen under one accountable roof. You get the compliance paperwork for the repair, not a verbal assurance.

The Team to Ring for Water Leak Detection

A hidden leak is a job where experience shows, because the crude way to find it is to start opening walls and hope. We would rather spend the time listening first and cutting once.

That approach saves you the repair bill on damage that never needed to happen. One licensed crew traces it, fixes it, and stands behind the labour.

Servicing Hornsby and Surrounding Areas

Leak detection pairs naturally with other work. A traced leak often turns into burst and leaking pipe repair, and a slow drip at a fitting can be sorted with leaking tap repair on the same visit.

We bring the gear to Waitara, Wahroonga, Mount Colah and Normanhurst too.

Good questions, straight answers

Honest Water Leak Detection FAQs

Clear answers to the questions a hidden leak brings up.

Does leak detection have to be done by a licensed plumber?

The tracing itself can be done by a technician, but the moment a pipe is opened or repaired it is licensed plumbing work by law in NSW. We do both, so you are not handballed to a second trade once the leak is found.

What condition is the house left in afterwards?

As close to how we found it as possible. Acoustic and thermal gear lets us pinpoint the spot, so we open one small, targeted access rather than a whole wall, and we tidy up before we go.

Can I leave the water on before you arrive?

If the leak is slow and hidden, leaving the water on helps, because a live leak is far easier to trace than a dry one. If it is actively flooding, shut it at the meter and we will work from there.

Is there anything to clear or turn off before you come?

Clear access to the wet area and to the water meter if you can, and move anything precious off a damp floor. There is no need to switch anything off; we would rather find the leak while it is showing.

What if the job turns out bigger than the quote?

You hear about it before anything changes. If tracing shows the leak is one of several failures in old pipework, we re-quote the repair as a fixed figure and you decide, with the detection price unchanged.

Will you show me what actually went wrong?

Yes. We show you the traced spot, the corroded joint or split pipe behind it, and where the water was tracking. You see the cause before we quote the fix, not just a bill afterwards.
